Tripunithura is known for its historic past which entwines with the history of the state of kerala and also has some silver writings in the Indian history. Although there are many It Parks, Petroleum Refineries and many industrial edifices it is the simplicity and royal ambience of its streets and architecture that hauls tourists to this palace town.

The place had been the residential town for the royal family of Kochi. While the king had his fabulous Palace located in Thiruvankulam panchayat close to the town, the other larger family members resided at various small and large cottages or kovilakams near their family deity temple Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple in Tripunithura.

There used to be four forts around the temple and the royal town which were guarded by Nair pattalam or horse topped police. The stable was located at a place which is still called layam ground or the stable ground in Malayalam and happens to be at the center of the vibrant city. It is still maintained as a ground with lush green gras and small trees and benches provided by the local authorities.

Although roads might seem to be a bit cramp and narrow considering the amount of trqffic that uses it on their way to the ever busy Ernakulam city, there is a traditional charm in itself. Shops are quirky and attractive with wooden panel doors and wooden staircases to upper rooms seem stop the time.

The temple also is the epicenter of the culture and commune point for the residents. The annual festival during November- December time frame is a showcase of the prodigies of Kerala art and tradition in its every detail and form. The festival has daily rituals and cultural programs extending to night from early morning.

Another annual event in Tripunithura is the carnival or Athachamayam which is taken out on the Atham day before the Onam and marks the beginning of celebrations of Onam across the state of Kerala. The carnival includes a riyal parade concocting the traditional and contemporary developments in the state along with royal dressings and replicas on lorries. The fair attracts quite a lot of tourists and is an all out entertainment event. The parade starts near Tiruvankulam and goes all through the main road to the tripunithura Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School grounds near to the town center and Private Bus depot.
